Random Item Wednesday - More Cowbell!

Oh, the poor cowbell. Once it was (probably) a heralded instrument of folk music and 70s soft rock, an instrument that had respect (or something like it).

Now, thanks to one very popular "Saturday Night Live" skit, it has been relegated to the bottom of the music food chain, below even the lowly egg shaker. But still, we can't help but smile whenver we hear the words "More cowbell!"

Random Item Wednesday - A Spy Survival Kit

Today's random item is something that, to us, combines two seemingly unrelated worlds. The world of outdoorsmanship (hiking and camping) and the world of international intrigue (aka spying).

It's the Dog Tag Deluxe Survival Knife. Sure, it's looks like just another dog tag necklace, but look again. That dog tag is actually a razor blade. And that razor blade has been heat treated so it has a reflective finish, perfect if you need to use it as a signal. There's also a button compass and Ferrocerium Rod (that's a rod that can start a fire when it's struck against the blade).

Yes, this survival knife would be quite handy if you're stranded in the wilderness, but what's with all the masquerading? Who needs a survival kit that can be disquised as something else? That's why it reminds of a something a spy would use - it falls into the same category as glasses that are actually video cameras or pens that really knives.

If you want to add this piece of outdoors/spy equipment to your arsenol, it can be yours for only $25.90!

Random Item Wednesday - An Unauthentic Artifact

Since it's Thanksgiving week, today's Random Item is something that has roots in Native American culture. How deep those roots run, however, are questionable...

It's the Peace Pipe Tomahawk! Seems like a natural combination, right? Except for the fact that peace pipes were often use in religious ceremonies and tomahawks were often use as weapons.

And we can only assume that anyone who seriously collects Native American reproduction artifacts would want something that actually looks like it could have been used by a Native American, not a modernized mishmash of items. But, if this looks like something you'd like to have displayed in your home, it can be yours for just $23.73!

Random Item Wednesday - Necessary Instruction?

Today's random items definitley teaches some important lesson. It could even save lives. But it's still totally random.

It's the SAFE Instructional Self Defense DVD featuring Paul Vunak! Yeah, we haven't heard of him either, but apparently he's a world-renowned expert in the art of hand-to-hand combat, and his "fighting systems" can get you out of 95% of street confrontations.

Once again, it's not that we think self defense isn't important. We whole-heartedly believe people should know how to defend themselves in a fight. But, we just have to wonder, how did this DVD get grouped in to the collection of items that Dealomite sells? And how many people really learn self defense from a DVD rather than a class at the local YMCA or karate studio?

And, maybe it's just the cheesy and totally 90s-looking photograph on the front, but we think we'd have a hard time taking this guy seriously. We have a feeling this instructional DVD might look a little something like this:

Random Item Wednesday - For Those That Do Extreme Writing

What's so cool about today's random item? Well, it's Original Astronaut Space Pen that can write from any angle (even in zero gravity) AND it write in extreme tempertures, from an Artic -30F to 250F!

Ok, so that stuff is actually kind of cool, but it's also actually pretty pointless. Unless you're an astronaut (which was the original use for the space pen) or an explorer that's cavorting around in hazardous climates, who really needs a pen with those features?

But, if you're a NASA geek, this could be a cool item to have. We have the original silver space pen for $35.00, or the black rubber finish space pen for just $7.50! And please, if you ever do use the pen in any of the aformentioned extreme conditions, let us know how it works!

Random Item Wednesday - Hey, I'm Missing A Piece

We selected today's random item simply because we honestly didn't know things like this existed before today. It's the Puzzle Roll-Away Mat, designed to expertly store you unfinished puzzles!

Now, we can appreciate that there are some hard-core puzzle lovers out there who might find this handy, but here's our sticking point: Wouldn't these puzzlers have a designated spot for their puzzles so they wouldn't have to move it if company came over?

And if you're a casual puzzler, well, you probably didn't care that much about completing the puzzle anyway so, back in the box it goes! So, you can see why we're confused as to who, exactly, needs a puzzle storage mat. But hey, if you fall into that category, it can be yours for just $10.50! And if you need some puzzles to store in it, we have those too!

Random Item Wednesday - It's Obsolete Now That Google's Here

There was a point in time when today's random item would have been a pretty cool thing to have. When computer geeks & families who just bought a home computer for the kids would have eagerly snapped up this piece of Microsoft software.

Today, however, we have Google, the search engine powerhouse that has made most reference materials, including the Microsoft Bookshelf software, pretty much obsolete. And once you take into consideration that what we have is the 96-97 edition, you realize that it's completely obsolete. Is there anyone that is out there looking for this software?

Still, if you have a grandma who's still hanging on to her first personal computer (and still hanging out in AOL chatrooms too, we assume) then maybe this would make a nice stocking stuffer this Christmas. Or, if you have an artsy friend that's working on a CD-Rom collage, you could contribute this to their pile of art materials. Maybe donate it to a library, where they can put it in their exhibit on outdated technology...

Random Item Wednesday

Today's Random Item Wedensday should appeal to you treasure seekers out there. It's the Metal Sand Scoop, made by Garret Metal Detectors.

"Successful recovery requires the right tools." And this scoop, they say, will make hunting for treasure in the surf or along the beach even easier. Of course, that's if you can take the staring from other passers-by wondering why you're scooping up a bunch sand without making a sand castle.
